Food Science Human Nutrition ( FSHN )101:
Below is a project I had to do for my FSHN 101 course. I had to pick a food and then figure out how it was processed, packaged, the shelf life, where it could be purchased and include food safety tips. I also had to make the information I chose to present appropriate for the grade level I selected. I made the content appropriate for 6th grades. The assignment details are attached.

Lays Baked! Original Potato Chips:
Target Audience: 6th Graders
How is it processed?Step 1: The potato's are washed and cleaned.
Step 2: The potato's are peeled. ( This removes fiber) Step 3: Potato's are washed and rinsed. Step 4: Potato's are fried in corn oil. Step 5: Potato's are seasoned with salt. |
How is it packaged?Lay's Baked! potato chips are packaged in bags that are lined with foil to keep out sunlight and is sealed. This keeps the chips from becoming stale.

Storage/Shelf Life?According to the bag, the chips are guaranteed fresh until the date on the bag.

Where can it be purchased?All over the world. In Wal-Marts, Gas station stores etc.

Food Safety:The bag must have empty space filled with nitrogen to keep the bag of chips fresh.

Fun Facts:
1. The first bags of chips were sold from a Model T Ford.
2. Bags of chips can be shrunk in the oven due to the aluminum coating in the bag.
